Indexing Single-Source Documents

Speaker: Kurt Ament, infotektur

Indexing Single-Source DocumentsBy its very nature, single sourcing forces you to integrate indexing into your information development processes. In the same way that you develop modular content that can be assembled into different documents and formats, you develop modular index entries that can be re-used "anywhere, anytime, anyhow."

This seminar shows you by example how to develop modular index entries that make sense when your content modules are assembled into different print and online documents. It also shows you how to leverage modular indexing to diagnose usability problems in your assembled documents. The seminar provides you with a scalable framework of real-world indexing guidelines you can customize and integrate into your in-house documentation standards.

What you learn

In this seminar, you learn how to do the following:

  • Identify and index different types of content systematically.
  • Design index entries for re-use in print and online formats.
  • Assemble document indexes into master indexes seamlessly.
  • Use assembled indexes to diagnose document usability.
  • Develop indexing standards that ensure re-usability.

When and where

This seminar was presented at the following conference:

WinWriters Online Help Conference Europe 2003
